Our Story

Having enjoyed after-dinner walks through the streets of Florence, capped by delicious gelatos and cocktails in a charming gelateria, two natives of Queens, NY and San Juan, Puerto Rico were inspired to transport  some of those Italian experiences to their hometown of Norway, Maine.

By combining their Italian and Puerto Rican heritage, they set out to create a place for locals and visitors to  experience the flavors of Italy with a unique twist. They found the perfect spot at the former Woodman’s Gun Shop on Norway’s historical Main Street, and embarked on realizing their dream.

The next step was to learn the gelato business. Carpigiani is one of the most renowned gelato equipment manufacturers in the world and their sister organization, Carpigiani Gelato University, offers professional training in gelato making taught by the most respected professionals in the industry. At the Carpigiani Gelato University program in Chicago in the summer of 2019, they learned the fun and delicious process of fresh gelato production using high quality ingredients and the best equipment available on the market.

Now, six months later, following a full renovation of their Main Street building, their dream has become a reality: Dolce Amici Gelato & Cocktails.  During the process, they formed friendships and connections near and far that have supported, inspired and encouraged them in their gelato adventure.
